Background

ComputeNano.com explains the concept of rational nanotechnology and computer-aided nanodesign™, to promote their use in research and manufacturing, and increase understanding among the scientific and business communities.

A recent return on investment (ROI) study by IDC concluded that for each dollar invested in modeling and simulation software and its support infrastructure, $3 to $9 was returned to the company in incremental revenue and costs savings. Thus, it is clear that CAN will drive the design and development of industry's products based on nanoscale materials and phenomena.

This section of the site, along with the Technologies section, gives background into the whole subject of nanotechnology and an insight into current nanotechnology research.

The following pages will answer questions such as:

The Technical Terms Explained

A glossary of terms has been compiled to help with the often bewildering use of technical terms. If there are any terms that are not explained or you would like adding, please contact us.

More Information

  • The journal Nanotechnology carries a good basic introduction to nanoscale science, nanotechnology in industry, and the (many) popular misconceptions of the subject.
  • Cornell University, USA, also has an excellent reputation for materials science research. They have put together this informative booklet about the different disciplines involved in nanotechnology and the resulting products.
